Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers about MS care and support at home.

Yes. Home care can provide practical support for people living with MS when symptoms or changing abilities make everyday routines more difficult. Support can be tailored around the person's needs and may include personal care, meals and drinks, household tasks, companionship, mobility support and help with appointments.

Depending on assessed needs and the agreed Care Plan, support may include washing, dressing, grooming and other personal care, preparing meals and drinks, shopping, laundry and light housekeeping, companionship, and support with everyday routines. Care Workers can also observe and report changes in mobility, fatigue, or ability to manage daily activities.

Yes. Fatigue can make everyday activities more difficult and may vary from day to day. Care can be arranged around the person's energy levels, with support focused on essential routines while allowing time for rest. A Care Worker can help with practical tasks, meals, personal care, and household activities so the person can use their energy for the things that matter most to them.

A Care Worker may provide mobility support where this has been assessed, planned and is within their training and competence. This can include supporting safe movement around the home and helping maintain established routines. Care Workers do not diagnose mobility problems or provide physiotherapy, and any concerns about a significant change in mobility should be raised with the appropriate healthcare professional.

Yes. Overnight care or live-in care may be considered when someone needs additional support or reassurance during the night or more continuous help throughout the day. The appropriate level of care depends on the person's individual needs, safety, preferences, and the support that can be provided following assessment.

Yes. MS can affect people differently, and symptoms and abilities may change over time. A care arrangement can be reviewed as needs change, including changes in fatigue, mobility, personal care, confidence, or ability to manage everyday tasks. The aim is to provide appropriate support while encouraging independence and respecting the person's choices and routines.
